Discount Books: College Student Resources

June 23, 2008 – 11:59 am

As tuition goes up, there are also more avenues for college students to help pay for the enormous expense. There are a number of new grants and scholarships available. This can be seen as the silver lining to a problem with tuition that doesnt seem to be going away–actually tuition is going up yearly.

However, student loans are not a free ride. While there are a number of scholarships that dont need to be paid back, the majority of student loans need to be paid back, either through a work-study program or paying it off like a traditional loan after graduation. Remember that there are thousands of scholarships available, so if you are denied one, do not stop there.

Financial Aid
The main complaint about financial aid is that it does not cover the entire tuition. Really it can be seen only as discounted tuition. However, the better your academic record, the better aid package you will receive. In addition, if you have a particular talent–violin, sports, writing–or come from a particular ethnic background, there is a scholarship for you.

Basically there is a scholarship for every single person out there. You have to apply early and dont waste time applying for scholarships which you have no hope in getting. Also, investigate the full range of scholarships that are offered by independent groups, the college itself, as well as state and federal grants.
